Getting Here - Campers

Directions

Hinterland is located in St. Charles, Iowa, just 30 minutes south of Des Moines.

Take I-35 to St. Charles, Iowa, then use the route assigned to your parking pass, even if your GPS suggests differently. Road closures and traffic patterns are in place throughout the festival weekend, and following festival signage will get you to your lot (or home) the fastest.

NORTH ROUTE - Exit 56
Box Office, 4-Day General Parking, Premium Parking, ADA Parking, Tent Camping, RV Camping, Rideshare/Dropoffs

SOUTH ROUTE - Exit 47
1-Day Parking, Car Camping ‘

Exit 52 off-ramps are closed Thurs, July 30 – Sun, Aug 2.

Campers Arriving on Wednesday: Exit 52 for St. Charles will be open during this time.

Check-in Times

Wednesday: 12pm–8pm,

Thursday-Saturday: 9am–7pm.,

Sunday: 9am–12pm

You can NOT check in if you arrive (for the first time) outside of these hours.

Wednesday camping is encouraged! Food and drink vendors will be open.

Peak Traffic Times

9am on Thursday, 1pm–6pm each day, and exiting the festival each night.

When You Arrive

Parking/camping pass window stickers and festival wristbands are required to enter the parking lots.

‍

Place your parking/camping sticker on the driver’s side front windshield before you arrive, and make sure everyone in your vehicle is wearing their wristband.

‍

Tent Camping passes are digital tickets. Login to the AXS app to access. Have it ready to scan when you arrive in exchange for a tent bandana you’ll place on a visible part of your tent at all times.

Don’t have a window sticker or wristband, or purchased after July 12th? Before going to the parking lot, head to the Box Office onsite (Gate C with temporary parking) or offsite (Tuesday only at Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines).

Reminder: Tent Camping and Glamping passes do not include parking and must be purchased separately.

Tent Camping Gear Drop Zone

An optional gear drop off/pick-up zone is available at Gate I. Wagons are also recommended for easier transport.

Vehicle Re-Entry

Tent Camping Parking, Glamping Parking, RV Camping Companion Vehicles - re-entry ALLOWED during daylight hours

Car Camping, RV Camping - re-entry NOT ALLOWED

Leaving the Campgrounds

All campers must be packed out by Monday at Noon.
