Arrival & Departure Tips

Plot your course through the prairie like a pro. Traffic and parking take time, so plan ahead to make sure you don’t miss a single set. Here’s some advice from seasoned Hinterlanders on how to keep your travels smooth and safe.

Parking
If you plan to drive to St. Charles, make sure you’ve purchased a parking pass and have your parking sticker visible in your front driver side window, whether it’s for General Parking or the camping area you’ve chosen. When you arrive, use the festival map and follow the directions of onsite signs and staff to find your respective lot. Complimentary shuttles will be running all weekend to take folks between parking lots and the festival grounds.

Shuttles
Better yet, skip the hassles of driving and parking altogether by taking the free shuttles from Des Moines. Hop on board at the Wells Fargo Arena parking lot, conveniently located downtown (near many hotels), and step off right in front of the festival grounds. Let loose safely, knowing at the end of a glorious day of music and sun you can catch a shuttle back, leaving the driving to the pros.

Shuttles will run continuously between Des Moines and the festival grounds starting an hour before gates until Midnight each night.

Whether you ride or drive, plan ahead for inevitable traffic delays.
Peak travel times are 10am on Friday (for campers), 4pm-6pm each day and exiting the festival each night. If you can’t head out early to avoid traffic and have to wait in line on your way in or out of the festival grounds, remember to keep it friendly. Your fellow Hinterlanders are waiting too, and everyone will be there soon!
